Some might ask, why a national movement of in-person meetings?  Why not meet via Zoom or some other online meeting platform?

We refer you to an important book by MIT sociologist Sherry Turkle–Reclaiming Conversation: The Power of Talk in a Digital Age–in which Turkle makes (in our estimation) an airtight case for the role played by face-to-face communication in the development of empathy–the very cornerstone of good human relationships.  In short, the inherent distance and (often) anonymity of digital communication is damaging us.  It’s time to show up and face each other.
